Friday 10 July saw the inauguration of Councillor Louis Gardner as Mayor of Newquay and Councillor Rachel Craze as Deputy Mayor. The ceremony took place at the iconic Huer’s Hut.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, only a small number of people were permitted to attend the ceremony to adhere to social distancing guidelines. Therefore, the Council made the decision to hold the ceremony at the Huer’s Hut and ensure it was filmed so that residents of Newquay would still be able to watch the civic event.
Mayor of Newquay, Louis Gardner, commented: “I can’t promise, despite our best efforts that projects will finish on time. I can’t promise that we will definitely achieve everything that we set out to do, the world is just too unpredictable right now, nor that everyone in town will agree with everything that the Council does. However, I can promise to be a Mayor who works tirelessly for the residents of Newquay and represents the town in the best light. I will never shy away from difficult decisions and I promise I will dedicate myself to the role and everything that it entails for the rest of the year. I hope to be the Mayor that the town deserves.”
