Newquay Town Council has a vacancy for an enthusiastic, efficient and professional Library and Information Assistant, based within the Newquay Library; on a full time 37 hour a week contract.

Do you want to work in a Customer Facing role within the Library and Information Service? Do you want to manage our fantastic Library & Information Service. The job is extremely varied. One minute our Assistants will be reading a book to a child and the next be providing information on housing and welfare issues. You will be assisting diverse members of the community access council services and information. You will help to organise events for our customers and also be working in partnership with other agencies. This is a dynamic role performed in a fast moving, change driven environment.
You will need to be confident in approaching people of all ages and backgrounds. You will be talking face-to-face with customers, by telephone and email. You should have effective problem solving skills and the ability to listen and communicate effectively in order to understand what the customer needs. At times you will need to deal with challenging situations and remain calm whilst under pressure. You must be able to multi-task and juggle priorities, as every customer is important.
You must have strong computer skills and confidence to be able to search for information and record data accurately. Referring out customers to relevant specialist services. You will need confidence in assisting and supporting our customers to access the public computers and to get online.
You will be processing payments to the council and have the ability to to input data accurately and have an eye for detail. You will have a keen interest in books and reading. It is important that the post holder is committed to their own continuous personal development through informal and formal training.
The Library and Information Service is fast paced and continually developing. We aim to deliver a modern, customer focussed library and information service. We work with partners and local groups to build strong and cohesive communities and are the Council’s first point of contact for internal and external customers through our record and refer service. We are committed to increasing Customer Access to the Council’s services through the use of modern technology and promote active participation in all the Library offers and events.
The post holder will also be supporting other officers as needed within the Corporate Service, which is a very small team who work together on a range of projects and tasks. This will require undertaking a range of administration, clerical and secretarial duties including filling, sorting post and dealing with incoming telephone calls.
