IMPORTANT NOTICE TO BOAT AND VESSEL USERS AT THE GANNEL BOATYARD
This notice contains important information and may require action by you. Please read it carefully.
Newquay Town Council owns the land at the Gannel Boatyard shown on the plan below marked red. This includes the river bed and foreshore.
Within those areas the following activities require permission of Newquay Town Council:
- Installation and use of moorings
- Storing boats, vessels or other items
- Anchoring boats or vessels
- Using the land to access boats or vessels elsewhere on the Gannel
To date permission for those activities has been granted informally. Newquay Town Council is formalising these arrangements to protect the environment and promote public safety. This requires a new written agreement for anyone carrying out those activities within the above area. Anyone with an existing agreement made in writing or otherwise will also need to enter into a new agreement. Newquay Town Council is not seeking to stop current boat owners from mooring and the new agreement will not impose new charges.
Important action current boat/vessel owners or keepers at the Gannel Boatyard must now take:
If you currently have a boat or other vessel on the land you should provide the following information:
- Full name
- Contact address
- Email address if available
- Name, description of boat/vessel and its location along with evidence of your ownership
You should send the information to: Municipal Offices, Marcus Hill, Newquay, TR7 1AF or office@newquay.town or call 01637 878488 before 4:00 pm on 07 October 2019
Newquay Town Council will then send you the written agreement which you should sign and return. All existing permissions the above activities will terminate on 4:00 pm on 07 October 2019.
If you do not wish to enter into a new written agreement you must remove your boat and/or mooring and possessions before 04 November 2019. You should inform Newquay Town Council that this has been done.
Failure to respond may result in your boat, contents and mooring being disposed of but that is a last resort and we look forward to hearing from you.
If you do not keep a boat or vessel on the land at the date of this notice there is no need to contact us.
