Enforcement

The roles and responsibilities of our Environmental Enforcement officers are as follows:-

• Monitoring and enforcing dog bans in designated areas such as Porth Beach (seasonal) and all Children’s play parks within the Newquay area.
• Prevention of dog owners failing to remove their dog faeces.
• Monitoring and enforcing dogs on leads in specific areas.
• Dealing with members of the public where littering is concerned.
• Dealing with fly tipping in liaison with Cornwall Council.
• Prevention of fly posting and graffiti.
• When required, Officers are qualified to carry out traffic management.
• Educating members of the Public in their responsibilities regarding dog ownership and cleanliness before enforcement via fines.

The areas our Enforcement Officers patrol include all of the footpaths, bridleways and open spaces in Newquay, which includes anywhere open to the air. They also patrol areas which have been highlighted as a concern from members of the public and Councillors.

Fines

• For failing to pick up dog faeces or failing to put your dog on a lead, a £100 fine is issued with a maximum fine of £1000.
• For littering, fly posting and graffiti the fine is £150 up to a maximum of £2500.

In essence the main aim of our Enforcement Officers is to be approachable to members of the public who seek advice and guidance in their areas of expertise.
